Bremer Bank to Enter La Crosse Market; Names Dale Walter to Lead New Bank

ST. PAUL, MN – November 21, 2012 - Bremer Bank, a privately held, $8 billion regional financial services company jointly owned by its employees and the Otto Bremer Foundation, has announced its intention to open a new bank in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and has selected long-time community banker Dale Walter to lead the bank.

“Bremer selected La Crosse because it is a robust, growth community that further extends our regional presence in Wisconsin,” explained Greg Hilding, Group President and the leader of expansion efforts for Bremer Bank. “Bremer has successfully met the needs of clients in markets similar to La Crosse. We bring not only business banking expertise to the market, but also a real commitment to enhance the overall health of each Bremer community through volunteerism and charitable giving.”

Walter, a West Salem resident, has more than 25 years of financial services experience in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and most recently was president of Associated Bank in La Crosse.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Dale joining us in this leadership role,” said Hilding. “He’s spent over two decades in Wisconsin markets working for community banks, where he held multiple roles serving the needs of business clients. Dale’s broad financial services background is an excellent fit for this role. Dale has a passion for community banking – this is an individual committed to building relationships and to the long-term health of this community.”

Walter’s extensive community banking career includes experience as a commercial/agricultural relationship manager and market manager. Most recently, he served in a senior leadership role as the market president for Associated Bank in La Crosse, where he started the Commercial Banking group and led commercial teams in the La Crosse and Eau Claire areas.

“I am excited about this new opportunity,” said Walter. “As I’ve gotten to know the Bremer organization, I’ve come to appreciate how committed this bank is to building healthy communities. Bremer’s resources, coupled with a talented team and local delivery, will be a welcome addition to our area. I’m proud to bring this commitment to the Seven Rivers Region.” Bremer is currently seeking property in La Crosse to house a new bank and expects to staff the location with a mix of specialized talent from the area and from Bremer’s experienced team.

Walter has a bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness Management and Finance from Southwest Minnesota State University and also has a graduate degree from Colorado Graduate School of Banking. He has been an active community volunteer for many organizations including the United Way, Downtown Mainstreet, Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, and Kiwanis.

While Bremer seeks a location for its new bank, Walter will work from a loan production office that will open soon to begin offering Bremer lending services to the community immediately. In the meantime, Walter can be reached at 608-386-4668.

When completed, the new bank will include multiple drive-up lanes and a drive-up ATM. The new bank will employ up to 20 people and offer a full range of retail, ag and business banking, mortgage, investments, and insurance products and services. The branch is expected to be open for business early fall 2013.
