February 6, 2014 - Mary Brainerd, President and CEO of HealthPartners, will join the Bremer Financial Corporation Board of Directors. Brainerd held several senior level positions with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota prior to joining HealthPartners in 1992. As president and CEO, Brainerd leads more than 22,000 employees in the HealthPartners integrated system, which includes a care delivery system with more than 1,700 physicians at nearly 140 primary, specialty and urgent care clinics, six hospitals, a large dental practice, 1.4 million members in top-rated medical and dental health plans and HealthPartners Institute for Education and Research.
Brainerd grew up in St. Paul and has been actively involved in the Twin Cities community. She is one of the founding CEOs and former Chair of the Itasca Project, a group of 40 government, civic and business leaders addressing the issues that impact long-term economic growth, including jobs, education, transportation and economic disparities. She also serves on the boards of Minnesota Life/Securian, Minnesota Council of Health Plans, Minnesota Philanthropy Partners and SelectHealth. Brainerd previously served on the Federal Reserve Board as a Class C Director (2008-11) and chair (2012-13).
She has received many honors throughout her career, including being named to the 100 Most Influential in Health Care by Modern Health Care (2013), Top 75 Most Influential People in the Twin Cities by Minnesota Monthly (2013), the Caux Roundtable Award for outstanding citizenship (2012), induction into the Twin Cities Business Hall of Fame (2011), induction into the Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest’s Business Hall of Fame (2010), Executive of the Year from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal and the University of St. Thomas Award for Ethical Leadership.
