Taking Action to End Hunger: Donations to Second Harvest Heartland Matched by Bremer Bank $1 for $1
St. Paul, Minn. – May 26, 2011 - For the sixth consecutive year, Bremer Bank is ‘Taking Action to End Hunger’ during the month of June by raising funds for Second Harvest Heartland and the other Feeding America food banks of Minnesota. This year, every donation will be matched by Bremer Bank dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000. A $1 donation, matched by Bremer, can help provide 14 meals. Donations will be accepted online at Bremer.com or at any Bremer Bank location.
Summer is especially difficult for children, who are out of school and do not have access to free or reduced-cost school lunch programs. Overall, one in four children in America face hunger. Children make up 38 percent of the members of households served by Feeding America Food Banks.
“Hunger impacts many people, including a large population of children,” said Kevin Powers, group president, Bremer Bank. “According to Feeding America, poor nutrition affects not only a child’s physical growth, but also cognitive and behavioral development. Bremer recognizes this and the special need to fill food shelves during the summer months. In response, we are excited to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000. We hope you’ll join us in taking action to end hunger.”
Bremer invites you to help end hunger at two special events in June. On Saturday, June 4, Bremer will be at the St. Paul Farmer’s Market in Lowertown along with KS95 anchors Moon & Staci to collect donations and award prizes from the Bremer prize wheel. On Sunday, June 26, Bremer will be at the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market at 312 East Lyndale Ave., collecting donations and passing out gifts. Joining Bremer in Minneapolis will be Ryan and Trey of KS95’s morning show from 9-11 a.m.
